Welcome to our website which is currently under construction. We are doing a worldwide surname study of Baldacchino with variant names Baldachino, Ballacchino, Baldoquin and more. This type of study is also called a one-name study, where we try to record all the occurrences of the name that we find anywhere in the world and share what we’ve found with others. This site only names people from the past. Information on living people may be summarised but their names are not shared. So far, we have found over 10,000 occurrences of these surnames mainly in Malta where the Baldacchino surname occurs most often today and Sicily where the Baldacchino and Ballacchino surnames originated. The variant name Baldachino with one ‘c’ is mainly found in France and Gibraltar and Ballachino with one ‘c’ is mainly found in the United States. Baldoquin is mostly in Cuba and the Philippines. The names have also been found in more than 12 other countries in Europe, Africa, Australia and North and South America.

Although born and raised in England, Mark is half-Maltese, the son of Louis Baldacchino and Maggie Estall. We visited our family in Malta throughout the years and always dreamed of moving to the islands but were only able to do so upon retirement in 2015. Now we’re living in a country where everyone knows how to spell and pronounce our name, where it’s the 50th most frequent surname in Malta and where daily we encounter the history of those who have held the name for over eight centuries.
Thanks to the well-reputed Maltese genealogists, the Lanfranco family, along with the extensive work of Charles Said-Vassallo on the maltagenealogy.com website, we have a good idea of our direct paternal line of Baldacchino ancestors back to the 1400s. The view of our own family line was the beginning of our work on the worldwide one-name study.
We hope that you enjoy what you find and please use our contact page to get in touch.
Kim & Mark Baldacchino
