In order to get better evidence for the origin of the surnames of interest in this study and to see how families in different areas of the world connect, we are seeking volunteers to take the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) Big Y-700 test. This is a relatively recent test that offers confirmed results for matches, not just probable or possible matches. We have set up a Baldacchino Project on the FTDNA website at familytreedna.com. In addition, there are large FTDNA projects for Malta DNA and Sicily DNA where the participants would be interested in your results!
To take the Y-DNA test, you must be a male, since Y-DNA is only carried in the male-only Y chromosome, with a surname of interest or close spelling thereof:
Baldacchino, Baldachino, Ballacchino, Ballachino, Baldoquin, Baldaquin, Bollacchino, Baldaccino or Baldacckino
The test is simple but the results may take some months. The test is available at FTDNA Big Y-700 test and is sometimes offered on sale. If you have any questions, please contact us. If anyone, male or female, would be willing to donate toward the cost of these tests, please get in touch. Donations are made directly to FTDNA and may only used for funding test kits for the project that you designate.
